DANCE STYLE: JAZZ

Originally from Gonzales, Louisiana, he started dancing at age two, fell in love with dancing around seven, attended his first dance convention ever, Tremaine, at 15, and couldn’t stop talking about how much he loved it for months. After seeing the closing show, all the assistants and fun vibrant dances, he knew his next goal was to be one of those assistants! The following summer he auditioned and became a part of the Tremaine Performance Company, and the following year earned the title of Tremaine Senior Dancer of the Year. After those years with Tremaine, Matthew decided he wanted to pursue a professional dance career.

In the fall of 2017, Matthew moved to New York City to attend Pace University and pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Commercial Dance. However, he faced a minor setback after tearing the meniscus in his right knee and having to pause his dance training for 6 months. During this time, he discovered his love for teaching and choreographing and, once he returned to dancing, he shifted his focus to both the pedagogy and choreography tracks at Pace. In 2021, Matthew received his BFA in Commercial Dance from Pace University. Ever since, he has been living full-time in New York City chasing his dreams of performing and fulfilling his love for teaching.

Following graduation, he landed his first movie Blue’s Big City Adventure and his first professional theater job in the ensemble of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. Matthew has gotten to check off some of his other dream jobs including performing in the Super Bowl Halftime Show with The Weekend and performing in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade as well as, recently making his Broadway debut in the company of Wicked, saying at the time “It is nothing short of a Dream”. In addition, he loves teaching students from all backgrounds and says getting to see the lightbulb click for his students is the best feeling ever. He is thrilled to do that as a faculty member at Broadway Dance Center in New York City and with his Tremaine Fam on Tremaine Dance Conventions.
